This bronze piranha was live sculpted at the LA Zoo, drawn in by the compact form and alert presence of the fish. The surface was developed through a patination process using seawater, spot heat and cleaning chemicals, introducing natural variation and depth in to the finish.

Though small in scale, the piece carries a surprising amount of personality, something that became clearer the longer I worked from observation. Pablo’s posture and expression suggested a constant state of readiness rather than motion. The use of seawater during the patination process allowed the surface to evolve slowly and unpredictably, producing tonal shifts that couldn’t be forced. The approach favored patience over precision, and the final result provided a surface that quietly does the heavy lifting.
