Greagor the Chimpanzee was sculpted on site at the LA Zoo and finalized in bronze with black patina. This piece grew out of long, quiet stretches of observation - waiting for the chimpanzees to appear on their own terms.

This was a rare plein air sculpting day where the environment truly worked in my favor: Shade, a place to sit down, and a whole lotta time to slow down. Being there for the chimpanzee talks added an unexpected layer, especially learning about their resilience and how quickly they heal compared to humans. Watching them eat, pair off, and regroup made it clear how social and observant they are of one another. Greagor’s pose comes from a moment where one chimp reached toward another. No drama, just casual and familiar.
