Meet Pippin, my plein-air study of a Poison Dart Frog sculpted on site at the LA Zoo in the quiet shade of a nook adjacent to the River Otter habitat. This small but spirited frog became my first foray into the world of Pewter Casting. Pewter versions as well as Cold Cast Bronze editions are available for sale.

Sculpting Pippin meant slowing down and settling in on a slow weekday morning, giving the whole sculpting session an zen-like vibe. Just me, the tools, a lump of clay and this little flash of color perched like a gemstone on the leaves. As the sculpture came together, Pippin quickly revealed himself as the perfect model with a chill attitude, and got me thinking that this little Hobbit of a frog would be great cast in Pewter.
